It balances because half the weight is behind the balance point (note how the handles of the spoon and fork are way past the end of the toothpick. As for why the fire went out in time, it has to do with the fact that glass has a high heat capacitance. The glass conducted enough heat energy away from the burning toothpick to bring the temperature down to below the woods ignition point.
Magic is an illusion, physics is real. Sorry...

It has to do with the weight distribution of the spoons thier center and the toothpick.
if positioned right the front (on the toothpick) has less weight and less of an influence on the balance. the two ends going in two directions has more wiegt and allows it to stay on JUST the toothpick. also since the fork and spoon are going two different directions it is more balanced and it keeps it stable. all this forms what we see right now.

hello,
I have seen this about 5 years ago, and sure it has to do with physics, I don't remember the cause very well, but it was something with the
"center of gravity" of the used objects is lost or something like that.

The only explanation I can come up with is some form of magnetism which might push the cutlery away from the glass cancelling the moment that should cause it to fall over.
