John Sparkes is a genius and deserves a much wider audience. I wish that Barry Welsh was shown outside of Wales. Mind you, my wife doesn't find him funny but she is Scottish and I'm English so I don't even bother. The Welsh version of Frank Hovis is just as funny (probably because the routine is the same). John, if you are reading this, get yourself onto a national channel - or at least make sure that ALL your work is on DVD!

Jesus Wept... I have most of the Absolutely shows on VHS taped from the TV originally... Mate, do you remember or have the one where Frank Hovis is singing 'Putting on the Ritz'? that was just as hilarious... I'd love to see that again! I saw John Sparkes doing his 4-5 characters at the Blackhorse pub in Tottenham Court Road in about, ooh, 1992 or so? He stoppoed half-way through a Denzil sketch and said "I'm never going to do this again as long as I live..." then walked off! Class! What a guy!

Ab-sol-ute-ly top! Probably the most underrated comedian on telly. Brilliant cameos. Check out 'Barry Welsh' or 'Mr.Tifff'. Love it at 1.57 |
