french television The Battle of Britpop is the unofficial title given to the 1995 singles chart battle between two popular Britpop groups, Blur and Oasis. The two bands had had a long-running feud with each side expressing their hatred for the other. On one occasion Noel Gallagher of Oasis said he wished that Damon Albarn and Alex James of Blur would "catch AIDS and die" (he later apologized for his comments). The feud between the two bands came into the mainstream in 1995 when Blur decided to release their single "Country House" a week early to coincide with Oasis's single "Roll With It". In the end, Blur won the battle by 58,000 sales: "Country House" sold 274,000 copies to 216,000 copies sold of "Roll with It". Blur and Oasis have distanced themselves as much as possible from this event, as Oasis say they considered it over-hyped nonsense that they never really took seriously and accused Damon Albarn of merely trying to promote Blur by over-hyping the situation. Damon Albarn has also expressed regret of this incident.

In the sense that Blur never did the same thing over and over etc. They experimented, tried different things, changed what they did musically. Whats artistic about doing the same things? Noel and Liam Gallagher have inferior songwriting capabilities to Damon Albarn. And Im sure Damon's Grammy Award and 5 nominations speak volumes in itself. Blur with damons writing not only founded Britpop with ' Modern Life is Rubbish ' but covered Pop, Rock, Gospel, Techno and Funk to name a few. And Oasis?

"better" in what sense? You have to define your terms. Better in terms of record sales? No. Better is terms of tour/gig sales? No. Better in terms of staying together as a band? No. Better in terms of critics' awards won? No, both bands have won their share of awards. Better in terms of bands who cite them as an influence? No,both bands were derivative in the first place, and both have influenced others. How better, then? In your personal opinion, with your personal taste? Fine, for what it's worth

Anybody who actually has a clue about music will know that Blur are the better band, and will eventually cast Oasis to the 99p bargain bins :)
