Or they might learn to lack real life social skills.
Seriously, I love online games, but this is taking it a bit far.

wow, learning happens everywhere. you said,"i never wanted to learn a thing, cause there are way to many places and things to see". but every place you visit teaches you something.
As for studying in a virtual world like SL, it would be wonderful for people that cannot get to other places for finacial reasons or even disabilities that keep them housebound.
As for what it can teach children, social interaction, programming, and they can even play with design and other programs.

I want my kids to learn on a computer, not totally, but certainly some and SL for kids is way different than the SL with naked dance poles swinging furries. The 3D of SL may just inspire them to make a better software program.
As for forgetting teachers, you are the most important teacher they have, regardless of where the classroom takes place.

Did you guys listen to the video? It is extremely self explanatory. Look at it this way, I can take a class at a college across the country without having to deal with the expense of moving. Second life can help breach the gap that some people might face.
Second life is not a game by the way, so please try to get past that misconception. When people say it is a game they really show how uneducated they are.

SL is a great way to teach through immersion.. imagine learning about Greece when it looks like you're in ancient Greece and dressed in Togas, or learning about WW2 on the beach of Normandy, or learning about the landing on the Moon with the Lunar lander virtually there? It's not just a game and yes the graphics could be better but I imagine if you got a better video card it might help. Not sure. I've never seen photos or videos of SL with a great video card posted.

even though this sounds interesting please don't ruin gaming by putting education crap in it. |
