I cannot belive he died before the first Spit Flew. We could not of won the Battle of Britain with Hurricanes and Defiants. Thank you for this video and thank you Mitchell.

Great video. I never knew the name of the man that designed the Spitfire (Reginald Joseph Mitchell) until now. It's kind of sad that he never lived long enough to see what his fighter design did for the Allies in WW2.

The amazing thing about the Spitfire is that it was able to be developed throughout the war, with increases in horsepower from just under 1,000hp up to over 2,000 hp on basically the same design

I worked on them as an Aircraft Engineer.
