Idk, can you really say that it is the only reason for it? Considering that over 5 million copies were sold after ff8 and ff9 released. Also triumphing as the best selling ff game through 10-2.
Though, it has been criticized far more worse than what you said.Gamespy rated it the 7th most overrated game ever made in 2003. Many other flaws were pointed out, considering also that it was translated from japanese to english.Regardless, its a game that many find favorable. You should respect that.

Yeah, i really liked 6 too, i can't really "choose" which one is best. All I know is that I love to play them ^_^. I like them all up to 10, 10-2 didn't get into, 11 I haven't the money to spend each month, 12 didn't appeal to me and 13 doesn't look too appealing to me either :(. Anyway, regardless of how popular the game is to other people, or how fast they feel they could give their life away for the game. I just love to play them ^_^, there's no need for neck to neck competition.

And yes, I enjoy 6 over all others, in my opinion, it is the best, and I'm shocked at the lack of fanfare for it. It is my opinion. Don't like it, well, it's cool. Don't play the game then. Never said that you had to.

I was replying to Movie Fusionist, because well... Let's face it, there's an FF7 Fanboy/girl/whatever if there ever was one...
I'm just saying that There's no reason to assume that 7 is better than 8 because of a bigger fan base.
