I get goosebumps listening to that eerie steel guitar playing RIP Mr Helms and thank you for all the beautiful music you left us

To me, THE best. Loved that sound first and every time I hear it.
Glad he knew how much his playing mattered to us all.

Don Helms was a great steel guitarist. I loved his stories about Hank Williams and hearing him play Hank's songs at steel guitar shows. He was a friend of mine. I played a steel guitar show with him two years ago in Nashville and his set was right after mine. He's a steel guitar legend and I loved his Gibson Console Grande steel guitar. He made it sound incredible!

I met and interviewed another member of the Drifting Cowboys... Bernice Turner, a couple of years ago at the BB King Museum Groundbreaking in Indianola, MS.

Certainly not the last Drifting Cowboy. My friend played steel for Hank before Don and he is still around and playing as well. |
