lol its nice that we've come to an agreement XD
tomd22 (October 8, 2008 at 8:52 pm)
we got there in the end lol nothing like a good bit of common ground haha
MDakaDean (October 8, 2008 at 7:50 pm)
Thats what I'm saying, I agree with you with some people having 'special genetics' that give them an advantage over the average person, but if you work hard you can achieve the same goal as they did.
tomd22 (October 8, 2008 at 7:46 pm)
Listen i dont completely disagree with you, If u work hard at something you will get better at it. But some ppl get more return more quickly for the amount the put in, its called an accelerated learning curve or talent/gift whatever you want to call it. And the limit to their potential is far less restricted than the every day joe. But of course if you work hard at something you will inevitably get better at it.
MDakaDean (October 8, 2008 at 7:44 pm)
You have a valid argument but I still wouldn't agree on it.
tomd22 (October 8, 2008 at 7:38 pm)
My parents never deluded me into believing i could be anything i wanted. Its like these singing shows on TV, some of the ppl on them will never ever be able to sing, but your argument is that if they worked hard enough they could become mariah carey. It really makes no sense.
tomd22 (October 8, 2008 at 7:35 pm)
OK my point is this. Do you think the person with the highest iq in the world is person who works the hardest academically in this world? Because i dont, i dont believe that everyone is born as a blank canvas, i've never claimed that einstein was born with an encyclopedia in his head, i just believe the bedrock of his intelligence lay on a genetic level, something that he was born with. You could never be as smart as einstein.
MDakaDean (October 8, 2008 at 7:23 pm)
What your saying is something similar to Divine Right. When someone is born, that person has divine right to rule, meaning the gods chosed him to rule Thats all blasphemy to me. Einstein didn't get his intelligence out of thin air, he worked at it, You cant be born with an encyclopedia embedded in your head. Thats not how it is When your young, your parents say you can be anything you want to be, a lawyer or doctor, I do believe we can achieve the same things, but it requires hard work
tomd22 (October 8, 2008 at 6:25 pm)
You obviously believe everyone is born equall and can potentially achieve the same things. I think this is nonsense. Ability from one individual to another is as varies as looks are from one individual to another. Everyone is good at something. U could never be einstein no matter how hard you studied. Intelligence is genetic characteristic. Just like specific types of ability. But not everyone is lucky enough to stumble upon what they excel at in a life time.
