They're variations, he goes in reverse, starting on the G string and working back from the high position instead of on the E string and working up. That's why the audience gasps, because he's making an already virtuoso piece so much harder for himself, just for kicks.

If the speed is too fast, the articulation will suffer.
Speed is not everything in music.

jascha heifetz is much much better!and yes he can play it better!dosent matter if its faster or not but for sure it will be better. |
