Very very good (except for the first sound)! The end of this aria is one of the most difficult things ever written for the tenor voice, especially for the heavy Heldentenors that are usually employed in this part (without any musical good sense). Listen to René Kollo in the Bernstein recording: he was simply shouting it.
Kaufmann is a bit strange, but at least he knows what head voice is.
The staging is impressive... Probably the director mistook Fidelio for Beckett's Happy Days...

Well, damn...I'LL offer it to him! I want to direct operas, and I'm working on an envisionment of that opera. I guess I'd better get cracking ;)

Because nobody has yet offered him to sing it. It's on his wish list.

Who else agrees that this man was born to sing Hoffmann (Offenbach)? Why he hasn't yet is beyond me!

Not quite a messa di voce, a crescendo, but hard yes
cantanteporsiempre (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
that first messa di voce, is very hard for the tenor, because i think is the very first note he sings in the entire opera. I don´t like this opera!!! sorry lol.

He is so handsome! and what a voice!

Why be sorry? No doubt you are quite right in pointing out that these are two different voices. If you reread and understand my comment (which in any case made no claim that Tauber had a dramatic voice) you may see that we do agree about that,
ilbacioditosca (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Sorry he is full operatic voice and Tauber not!!! Tauber wasn't a full Dramatic voice.

Totalmente de acuerdo contigo. Una observacion objetivamente inteligente. |
