I didn't say that. But yes, religions grow rich by gaining followers. And of course I'm not talking just about money.
And you can't get rid of your "ego", so if you want that, it's a hunger that's never going to get satisfied. Makes you a good follower.
I don't think religious people are evil and consciously spreading these memes. But that doesn't change how they work.

I think this ego thing is just one of those religious scams. A way of saying you're not alright as you are, you need to change and you need the help of a religious authority (who of course needs your Money in exchange ;)) to do that.
