Get more info on the Smartcar http://www.myride.com/vehicle-... In recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests, the 2008 Smart Fortwo, the smallest car for sale in the US market, earned the top rating of good for front and side crash protection. Its seat/head restraints earned the second highest rating of acceptable for protection against whiplash in rear impacts. Smart Fortwo is classified a microcar, meaning it's smaller even than minicars. Weighing about 1,800 pounds, the Smart is more than 3 feet shorter and almost 700 pounds lighter than a Mini Cooper.

Pretty funny calling me a teenager. You type exactly like one! I know a lot more than you about autobody I can tell you that right now. Germany just builds better cars period. America WAS good back in the day they made some very respectable cars.. like the camaro and etc.. but now, not so much. Japan and Germany (and let's throw sweden in too) make the best cars. You want to argue? I have an internet document I can send you ON TAP to make you eat your words. =)

you must be some naive teenager. Just cuz its German doesn't mean its better. You're an idiot if you think so. You know jackshit about autobodies. All cars and most car-based SUVs are designed to have engine compartments and trucks that crumple easily. By the way, some Ford cars are designed around Volvo frames...

You're wrong. Ladderframe construction (what you call Full-frame) is generally worse at absorbing force. I'm assuming you're a highschool kid or someone without any technical knowledge so I'll explain. Ladder frames (found in Trucks) are built to be rigid and strong hence they don't crumple well. Crumpling is what absorbs force. Unibody frames are designed to crumple at strategic locations to absorb force. Hence Unibody frame car is safer than a ladderframe car of similar dimensions.

this car is AWESOME! i don't give a shit about what the IIHS says, okay they may not want to admit it, but this is a safe car, especially compared to the Toyota yaris

W2251, you are exactly the kind of "Rambo" you accuse others of. The truth is, none of us will be safe until all the full-size cars are off the road. Re: your penis substitute, I mean pick-up, what if you are hit by a semi or a train? See how silly your reasoning is?

Smart cars were carefully designed to resist at any kind of impact, he has limtis as any other car, but in a frontal crash against another vehicle, this car 'takes' the absortion areas of it. Ther's another real crash test between a Smart and a Mercedes E class that you most see. But... Above all, this small and very 'smart' car passed the EuroNCAP crash tests pretty well.

He is out of his mind. A toyota prius will never be as economical as a smart. A prius has he lowest co2 emission because its a "eco/green" car but its not a fuel economy king. Even a vw lupo diesel has similar co2 emissions and half the prius fuel consumption. In the matter of safety he maybe right.
fitimio001 (October 10, 2008 at 12:11 am)
sure prius might get about the same mpg, but its $10,000 more.
KkF00 (October 9, 2008 at 6:19 pm)
Actually... smartcars are safer than alot of cars. So stop complaining you idiots.
w225151 (October 9, 2008 at 6:11 pm)
Exactly! And I would still feel safer on a bike than I would in that thing. At least on a bike I have the slim possibility of landing on some grass somewhere. You get in a wreck in that thing and "you ain't going NOWHERE" to quote the Boondock Saints. (Great movie)
