Aesop's not supposed to make any sense. His lines have meaning to them, but they don't all talk about the same one subject, which is why it seems all jumbled and confusing.

Aesop is saying that americans are becoming overly materialistic. They are taught that those who "expire with the most" are the winners, that friends are not what truely matters. We are so obsessed with money that things such as mad cow happen, the result of poor animal treatment. The last American will be the first to die from mad cow meat, once we go down this path America is going into a collectible hell.
