Lion-head chests seem too be everywhere when it comes to big, Japanese mecha. There's GaoGaiGar, Gaoranger, and even Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger has armor that includes it.
Now I wnat a lion-chested mecha. Thanks a lot, Japan. Makin' me jealous...

Interesting. It sounded like the Koreans probably did the same as they call it Power Rangers over there as well.

You mean Gaoranger, probably it was a homage by Toei to Gaogaigar, like Jetman is considered a homage to Catchaman (Battle of the Planets, G-Force, Eagle Riders etc.)

Power Rangers Wild Force copied off of this, with a lion in the chest, a shark, like from Genesic GaoGaiGar, and the legs of the robot having similar desgin....siigh....
