Here in Belgium it's illegal as well. I don't care though, as I never had to make a call while driving anyways.

It is a nice way to lose idiots, yes... however the problem is that those idiots tend to be safe in their car as they plow down innocents (who may not be idiots... just careless or in the wrong spot at the wrong time)... so the law is about protecting society from idiots.
