Actually, his name is John. BUT, Jack is a nickname for John. The Boss called him Jack throughout the entire game. Jack is also Raiden's name. It was never explicitly stated what Solidus' name really was or if he even had one other than his designation, Solidus. However, when he was the President, he went by the name George Sears.

Yeh he was, sorry, i was wrong, i neva thaught he had a name coz he's a clone but some geek called filipeflower wrote a massive essy to me saying why his name is david! lol, chill! i was wrong :) it's only a game i love metal gear solid but some people just take it to seriouly!

Yes, he does say "David" in the original Japanese version. Not to mention the fact that the original Japanese voice acting was recorded first.
