There is direct link between the Norse Gods and Metal. Metal is done in the "F" cord, a heavy, dark sounding note, Norse music made heavy use of the "F" note as did Wagner. Viking raiders sounded the F cord before screaming in to pilliage and plunder. Our People where hedonistic, sexual, found of earthy pleasure, strong and intelligent. Odin, Thor and Frey on stage telling heroic stories through Heavy Metal music seems natural. Our Gods GROW with our people, not some relics of a bygone past.

I don't know how long the term Viking was thought of as a shameword. Most of Iceland was made up of whole clans and families that made their living as Vikings and they didn't feel it was a shameful profession. Its interesting to note that there was almost a seperate mythology for Viking clans that of course honored Odin but Njord and Agier and the more "civilized" Norweigan people who also honored Odin with Frigga but also Heimdal and Baldur, those being the more "compassionate, law giving" Gods

Try Garmarna's Herr Mannelig, best Scandinavian folk song I've heard that didn't have electric guitars in it.

In those days there were Sjøkonger(Seakings), leaders of men, without land. They had to eat and I dont think they would be satisfied with fish. They where summoned when the kings of the Lands went to war, they where what we call Vikings. Viking was a shameword, a viking was a coward. He lay hidden in the coves and bays (vik in Norwegian) waiting for traders to sail by. They where like the pirates, bound together by greed. They went IN Viking, not AS Viking.

Not a fan of metal, whatsoever. I'm not going to lie..I'm 100% Scandinavian and the fact that this music circulates there boggles my mind. I love the old Norse Pagan Gods, but you can't tell me with an honest heart that they'd want their images associated with electric guitars that are distorted beyond the civilized touch of our ancestors. I need to find true, authentic, Norse folk music that isn't decapitated by this BS that is metal. WTB ancient Pagan Hymns.
