Turnamabar. What are you trying to say? Charlie Parker was a great sax player. He did not pervert his instrument. He played wild and crazy Jazz. I guess you could say he perverted music, that would make some sense, but that is a different thing all together. New technique is good, there is somebody now and then that may find a new way to pick a guitar or something like that, but don't toss the baby out with the bath water.

thankfrebir. Yep, I am with you on this one for sure. I have noticed over the years, people that do odd techniques on musical instruments always seem to also be the same people that cant play the instrument correct in the first place. This is why they do weird stuff, because they failed doing it the correct way first. If a bass player ever comes around me and wants to play bass like Eddie Van Halen on guitar, I run his ass away real quick.

What Tommy Emmanuel would sound like on a bass?

But haven't the most famous instrumentalists, from Charlie Parker to Jaco Pastorius to Stanley Jordan, been those that find new ways to approach their instrument? You're entitled to your preference, of course, but isn't it exciting to see those new approaches performed with skill?

I love this vid of a truly amazing bass player and just generally a true insparation to music. Even me, a sax player, finds this guy and his bass lessons insparational

Truly one of the best bassists of his genre.
