Rap rock is all about the downbeat...great for things with a groove(dancing/f*cking)...the beauty of jazz is after you got your fill and don't want to obssess over the 1...like going for a walk after sex where you de-empasize the down and appreciate every other rhythm of nature...your heart beat, your breathe, the birds, the breeze, the sun, the moon...cycles that make a tapestry of existance...all part of the whole and with greater expanse and subtlety then just 1...2...1...2

i'm not 100% but i think it's just because it gets a smoother sound than using your foot to close the hats. and the "technque" is a simple concept.. just grab it. lol but it's all about applying the right pressure so you get the right amount of "fuzz"
