WOW! I just listened to Pavarotti 1969 (with Freni) and this is MUCH better (vocally, stylistically). He just has a problem, I don't know if it's a mannerism or a weakness, but he slurs upwards on some notes, and the voice doesn't seem to follow as quickly as the intention.

No, creo que hay controversia con eso, es más o menos como el do agudo de O soave fanciulla al final, que Kraus tampoco canta (y lo puede cantar facilísimo), volviendo a Puritani, dicen que originalmente se cantaba do agudo, pero ahora lo hacen en re algunas veces, es medio raro todo. Kraus, genio total, el ataque de agudos y el fraseo es genial.

What a happy marriage of technique and passion. Kraus is in his element here with just the right vocal timbre for this aria; ardent but with controlled power.

I heard Kraus years ago, (many) sing in Lucia Chicago and the voice carried fine and then next week I heard Pavoratti do it with Joan S yes his voice was slightly larger but not sung with the passion or style Kraus did it with and in fact his voice was not a lot larger at that time. Later he pumped his voice up but that hurt pav. as far as high notes in time, Kraus never pushed so he lasted longer How old was he here? Heard Shicoff and Tucker also sing Edgardo beautifully 1961 and 1986
