The animators were lazy in the manga goku automatically goes ssj3 as in the anime he's ssj2. But so far in this episode goku and buu are just playing around.

There weren't enough episodes with the animation quality as high as this episode (I can recall the one where Gohan was getting his ass kicked by Buutenks, among other episodes, that had the same animation). The episode before this one had the worst animation style of the series.
