Of course it's about smoking dope. You can't change the truth because you just feel it shouldn't be about something you don't want it to be about. I don't know why Dale and Gail sang this (I was a little kid when this song was a hit and my friends and I knew EXACTLY what a toke was) but either as a joke or in ignorance they did. Hilarious either way.
