That static sound is from the tape playing the song back stage. They had audio problems but for Enya's sake, her fans weren't smart enough to notice.

Yes, something's different. Her voice is raw, natural, or whatever you'd like to call it. while in the studio version they used filters on the tracks and a delay was added to her voice (like if she was singing from inside an empty box). But this live version impressed me more, cause there aren't many women that can do their throats change octaves that quickly. That is not an easy piece to sing. And i'm guessing it'll better over the years when her voice lowers a bit.
