nicw vid. What is that piece for?
What metal is that?
for the other comments, you don't use coolant on carbide tools and this high speed steel one definitely needs some sharpening on speed adjustment!

Coolant can cause thermal cracking on the carbide surface which reduces tool life

yeh but itd be alot cheaper to have ur tools last twice or 3 times as long than run it without coolant
kaszubaf (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Check around, we do it all the time and we are still in business

i am european dude we use coolant all the time only time we dont is taping sometimes and if its nylon on manual mills...cnc we still use collant and run it at full speed to increase production
kaszubaf (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
No, if you use the right cutter, it will last long. In Europe some machine shops don't use any coolant due to problems with Bio hazard etc. This is new school stuff. Time to move on buddy, it works.

yeh but it dont make the end mill last very long...it could probs do all that 1 more time and youd have to replace it and put a new 1 in...where as if you did have suds on you could do atleast 20-50 depending on the grade of steel
rick371 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
well that drill is totaly and uterly fucked if thats steel of any kind you need suds on it XD

I was a machinist once upon a time... and that endmill was tungsten carbide. They can be run like that with no coolant.
With a rigid set-up like that the feeds and speeds looked good for climb cutting, especially the roughing cuts riding over the center!
I've seen 1" diameter carbide run like this and although I wouldnt say the endmill looked like new. It could still cut just the same. Sometimes they would run for hours and other times would shatter and crash and then your changing tools LOL |
