I found a link for this video and I thought it should be shared because their's is a very moving story. You can see the BBC story here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/ame... This performance of Bernstein's Mambo is the best and most awesome I've ever seen. All musicians should play with this gusto no matter what their age and income. Most of these players are from the poorest parts of Venezuela. Truly Amazing!!!

All this talk of what is and isn't classical music is just ridiculous. I don't think anyone can deny that this is a difficult piece, and that this performance is very exciting!! The truth is that many orchestras make the most money playing "pops concerts." Believe me, much of that music is considerably less interesting than this. "Pops concerts" are funding "serious music." Instead of complaining about "pops music," we should be encouraging more creative music that still fits the "pops" genre.

What these kids accomplished is nothing short of a miracle, given then background. BUT.... This tempo is so bloody fast, that it is also energy and braun and very little finesse of the music. It is more a marching-band meets symphony orchestra version of the work, albeit electrifying!
