Professor Brian Sturm presents storytelling as a way of organizing information, conveying emotions, and building community. A model of storytelling as altered state of consciousness (the story trance) is presented that inlcudes 16 portals to altered states. Three stories are told to illustrate the theoretical model: Truth and Story; What happens when you really listen; and The stone cutter. Storytelling ethics and the need for trust and truth are discussed.

The 3 stories tales that you tell in your lecture-demonstration connect well with the theory you present in practice, particulary well told with great feeling with the last story, "The Stonecutter." I too like using this story with college-level public speaking students as well as with students whose native languages are not English, and look forward to further lecture-demonstrations by Professor Brian Sturm. Thanks you for your great presentation!

As a teaching artist, I find it incredibly valuable to have links to actual courses in the subject. A great way to develop your own online, professional development. BRAVO!

I watched about a third, and I must say, pretty lame. I see what is trying to be done, but their is a lot of hot air trying to communicate a few points that should be understood.
