Am, no! Sound travels as a wave. It does this by causing the air molecules to vibrate, causing nodes and antinodes. In this experiment, there is propane in the tube, rather than air. there is more propane at the points where there are antinodes, and therefore, the flame is higher. there is less propane so the flame is lower. My physics teacher actaully made one of these. BTW, what would a president want with a tube with flames coming out of it. Like you said: "think before you post next time"
