The Pumpkins owned the 90's after Cobain died...whether you like Nirvana or not while they were alive they were the owners...(Actually from '91 to '94 everything was about Nirvana and Pearl Jam)the Pumpkins started to become the biggest thing with Mellon Collie (though they became big with Siamese Dream).And I agree,you can't compare neither the bands nor the sound as the only thing they have in common is "rock"
