'Let it go'? You condescending little prick. If there hadn't have been a Spike, then you wouldn't have had 'The Goon Show', or by logic, 'Monty Python's Flying Circus'.

I'm Irish and thought it was great! Sure we're always takin the piss out of ourselves, our philosophy is that life's too short to take ourselves so seriously. Bravo Spike!

Of course. It's not OK to make fun of Blacks, but it is for Irish Catholics. (I'm being sarcastic in case you didn't catch it.)

Hmm. True... But then isn't it written like the accent Sounds?

Spike was born in India to Irish parents and raised in Britain - so he is not some "snooty Imperialist Brit making fun of the Irish" at all, he is an Irishman (albeit raised in Britain) making fun of the Irish! Get those sticks out of your backsides people! this is very funny! He's not "pandering to British racism" at all! He just has enough sense of humour to laugh at himself. This was in the days before PC-ness existed.

Is it more offensive if they replaced the Irish jokes for Black jokes?

Racist accusations are beside the point. It's BANTER! You'll here worse between friends down the pub, for god's sake.

Spike was born in India to Irish parents. Im 100% Irish and found myself not laughing at this sketch. I know it was the 70s and all, and cliches can be funny at the worst of times. But the way the text was misspelt, suggesting we Irish are illiterate, is kinda unsettling. But I should let it go. It was the 1970s after all, the decade of Star Wars but no taste.

I thought British humor was more high-brow than this.

He was an Irish genius as that is what he wanted! And now we Brits and Irish are in a place where we can take the piss out of each other and have a laugh! Not everywhere I know ! But we are good at this and have had to get on with the Irish for feckin years! God Bless Ireland.
