You don't really need a light bike to be able to manual, it may be easier but you can still do 'em with a heavy bike, and most people say a bike with a heavy back really helps with manuals.

If your just beginning to practice your manuals, chances are your going to lean to the left or right, When I started I always leaned to the right. Just practice more and eventually you should be able to manual without leaning. But if you keep leaning and you've been practicing forever, try turning ur handlebars the opposite way your leaning, or lean your body the opposite way.
