Magnifique! En plus je viens de découvrir un avantage à être une tanche en anglais (il faut bien qu'il y en ait un) : je ne me serais pas aperçue spontanément qu'il avait un problème d'accent.

I think MarMatMal was referring to Gerard's strong French accent, not the era the English was written in. To be fair, his French accent was quite strong in this, though I feel it lended something of an intimate, personal quality to it.
