My point was, we value the look of things, often ignoring the depth underneath... altruistic or corrupt. to quote ulysseft"We have a serious values crisis, any failure will be one of will and imagination..." Is the implication that imagination is limited only to praise, blindly...no room for dissent? That's really scary... you may choose to avoid the arguments of pessimists, but do you suppose there is a problem in such a polarizing position. Regards, chauncy

what scares me most is the amount of cynicisim and outright mistrust I see in some of the commenst I read here. Hawken has a track record few can approach, period. Not happy with that? For having met him I know how humble and generous a person he his. He has a purpose. He gives. No matter what you believe or not in what he says the only thing that matters in the end is to be good with life. We have a serious values crisis, any failure will be one of will and imagination. Any success:collective

sometimes I wonder why I entertain the arguments of pessimists and those wanting to prove there's a problem ~ as we focus our resources, our mind, heart ... our attitude to make it better, surely we discover at every corner, every turn of the page, every time we open our eyes our lives are being filled by the brilliant wonder of this miracle that we have come here to make this world a better place for our children and their children ... and we're all doing this together, right NOW, Thankyou ;-)

See: An Army of Davids by Glenn Reynolds. TED: Doing Bigger and Better Things for Love. Google: Social Singularity. Pay it Forward. Biological Altruism What is happening is about more than mere ideologies, political or religious affiliation and beliefs, or even cultural standards or nationalties. Bless Unrest is just addressing a small part of a much larger picture. Don't expect to hear much about it by watching TV, reading newspapers or playing viceo games...

Paul Hawken has been working in this field for years and years. Sometimes the 'messenger' may not fit our idea of who you feel should be doing the talking, but maybe it's best not to judge that so harshly. What is important is the work...the movement behind the face. If it takes a white male with more money than you or I to write the books and get the conferences together, what difference could that possibly make. The energy is us all. And Paul Hawken is very clear about that.

Another pretty white man, enthusiastic wih a new book out! I wonder - had he been of grayish hue, short, with a few missing teeth, a lisp and perhaps a lazy eye, Would we be so taken? How much depends on the power of the persona espousing it? We are evolving-perhaps, yet still dependent on factors that appear beyond our conscious choice to resist. Is it not an ideological notion, social justice? Can we avoid idealizing such a noble, even transcendent notion?

Agree... It can be a great diversion for those who don't recognize it for what it truly is. What's so dangerous about the enviromental movement is that that it allows the corp/elite to gain more power over our resources & infrastructure under the guise of saving the planet. Google Agenda 21 & be prepared for global taxation. Man is supposed have dominion over the earth not vice versa. PEOPLE WAKE UP!!!
