they also suggested james caan to play michael instead of playing as sonny. they even tried martin sheen!

Danny Thomas wanted the role so bad he wanted to by paramount just to get it. Paramount also didnt want Pacino, he wasnt famous enough, and they suggested Ryan O'Neil.

The Academy wanted to give Brando a Lifetime Achievement Oscar also but only if he showed up to accept it so he refused. Brando was much bigger and more important than the Oscars.
