More at http://www.theuptake.org. Delyla Wilson tours the country with her family in the "PermiBus," a mobile permaculture demonstration. The group is in the Twin Cities to teach people about sustainable living practices. On the evening of Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008 the bus was pulled over in what police eventually described as a routine traffic stop. After detaining the bus occupants, the police decided the bus was a commercial vehicle and impounded it for inspection, leaving the family and their guests stranded and homeless. The police allowed the Wilsons to remove their dogs and chickens, but were not allowed to retrieve their computers or any other belongings, including their daughter's shoes. This incident ended a day that saw multiple pre-RNC raids, which some legal observers believe is a coordinated pre-emptive effort by local and national law enforcement agencies to chill RNC protest action. it's licensed in Montana, doesn't need to be a commercial in MN.

negative captain. the buses weight is over 26,000 so it does need a commercial license in Minnesota. We have plenty of motorhomes that need a bigger license. It goes by weight not commercialness.

Actually, on a federal level, any vehicle that has been converted to a motor home requires only a class C license to operate. It is not a commercial bus.

The State of minnesota along with the usa government are truely evil, this is grand theft auto.I have had the minnesota police [STEAL] a number of automoblies from me. How much longer are we going to let these sadistic bully's carry out there double standard's?

LordAidenWolf "isn't being used for commercial purposes" Others have already mentioned license class. Permibus blog says bus is used to transport people materials for a "family education project" teaching "homesteading, citizenship, and life skills," a "donation supported project." One person also engages in "work as a street medic," also accepting donations. Since money is exchanged, facilitated advertised by that bus, it's a commercial vehicle.

My company was the one who towed the bus away.People from other states need to realize that ignorance to other states laws is not an excuse. We tow cars from people from Wisconsin all the time because of no insurance. When you come over the border to Minnesota you need to place an insurance binder on your car.

I find this video hilarious, these people don't understand that they have to abide by Minnesota traffic laws if their final destination is in Minnesota. A quick weigh in and I bet that bus would be classified as commercial vehicle just on that.
