It is impossible to overstate what this man's music has meant to me. In the depths of my loneliness, this voice kept me company. I first saw X in 1987 and then saw John Doe at McCabe's Guitar Shop (Santa Monica) countless times. His solo albums are fantastic. Now I sing his songs to my children as they fall asleep at night. What a catalog of music and what a treasure of words and emotions. This man was alt country long before they had a name (cowpunk?). No labels and no boundaries.

I've loved him for almost 30 years, since I lived in LA 1980-1984. Going to see him play a very small show in Freehold, NJ on July 27th, can't wait!

Thanks for this video! I was fortunate to meet John after his show at McCabe's a couple of weeks ago. He is so down to earth, so real, so unpretentious, so easy to talk to ... he is a rare gem. Love him! |
