http://www.sundancechannel.com... John Doe: Punk Rock Legend. It doesn't get any more indie than that. The spotlight turns to John Doe, vocalist and bassist in the band X and present-day soloist. As a musician, Doe writes from the heart and exposes without exploiting. As an actor, Doe prefers to be in independent films. A forefather of punk, Doe forged the way for rebellion through music. He never changed his tunes for mass consumption and stays true to the DIY spirit.

It is impossible to overstate what this man's music has meant to me. In the depths of my loneliness, this voice kept me company. I first saw X in 1987 and then saw John Doe at McCabe's Guitar Shop (Santa Monica) countless times. His solo albums are fantastic. Now I sing his songs to my children as they fall asleep at night. What a catalog of music and what a treasure of words and emotions. This man was alt country long before they had a name (cowpunk?). No labels and no boundaries.

I've loved him for almost 30 years, since I lived in LA 1980-1984. Going to see him play a very small show in Freehold, NJ on July 27th, can't wait!

Thanks for this video! I was fortunate to meet John after his show at McCabe's a couple of weeks ago. He is so down to earth, so real, so unpretentious, so easy to talk to ... he is a rare gem. Love him!
