On the 15th October 1997 Thrust SSC became the first car to ever break the sound barrier. Piloted by Wing Commander Andy Green of the RAF, a top speed of 763.035mph over the flying mile was achieved. I've uploaded five videos, one on-board and four external (but unfortunately sound-free) videos that I found on the back end of a BBC website. Click on my profile for the list.

was a reply to this guy saying this : "You want to make history? Easy to beat this thing. Make a steady frame, put a space shuttle booster rocket on it and ignite the baby! 2 things stopping you: fear and common sense."

...what?
NickXDDX (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
and the fact that this was 7mph from taking off, and an SRB would make it tak eoff, and no "steady frame" the size of a car would be able to take the accel, and it would just buckle, or break in half

Hi, I think you heard about "Thrust 2" from 1983's 633mph record which they later found out was within either 3 or 7mph of take off! The download on the front wheels was only just greater than the force trying to push it up skywards. They had adjusted the car's attitude angle slightly to increase the speed - literally a degree or two!

Is this powered by Rolls Royce engines? RR makes a great product.
