Amazing scene from Ricky in the final episode of Extras by Steven Merchant and Ricky Gervais. This scene really stood out for me and showed the transition Ricky gervais can make between COmedy and Drama.

and shame on ricky....he's the worst of all for being such a hypocritical bastard. if you know ricky then you'll know that he is infact addicted to such shows as big brother and the x-factor...

This is going beyond a series, this is a state of the nation address on the state of celebrity culture, the tabloid press and the growth of reality television in the UK from 1998 to 2007.

I saw a different version to this yesterday, he said "if it makes Jimmy Carr's 100 greatest, not "E-channels"

No he's not. There's a difference between his audience and people who watch shows like Big Brother.

The reason people say this scene is powerful and moving isn't because of his attack on celebrity culture. It's the fact that Andy is realising and admitting for the first time that he's sold out his beliefs and turned into a jerk and possibly lost his only friend. It's because he's baring his soul and showing his shame and guilt for everyone to see. That's what this scene was about.

I would like to think this scene was done with a certain amount of truth and belief behind it carmelknows, it is way to genuine not to be the actual thoughts of steve and ricky.
