your saying Minimum wage is a bad idea?
bbigler21 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Minimum wage laws. That's funny, because that has the same effect as raising taxes on the rich. It causes the companies to be required to spend more, which causes the prices to go up, causing the value of the dollar to go down. People are payed what they are worth. If someone works harder than others, he will be given a raise. If you require a minimum wage, then you are requiring companies to spend resources unequivalent to the return. And that is unfair. That is why the dollars worthless

Same percentage is fair, yes. But they aren't asked to contribute the same percentage, they are required to pay a larger percentage. How is that fair? It's not called fair, it's called jealousy. You are coveting some others good fortune. That is a character flaw that stops people from acheiving their own goals. They are too busy dwelling on what they don't have.

do i want my childrne to inherit what i have? Sure, hopefully more. But the Rockefeller industry, JP Morgan Chase, the steel industry...there are exceptions to everything. Those who have many millions of dollars should be asked to contribute more than those who are middle class. Its called fairness.

the gov't is restricting? Yeah environmental laws and minimum wage laws and child labor laws ARE restricting, and thank god. The gov't has a lot of corruption in it, but so do corporations. One cannot just regulate one and not the other.

The Gates empire was not founded on inherited wealth. It was founded in his garage. It was built on his own integrity, and not on the hand-me-downs of a wealthy predecessor. Not all the wealthy are Gentlemen-born. And he is one of the wealthiest alive. And on inherited wealth, what is wrong with insuring the financial security of your next generation? Are you saying you want your kids to be poor, and not be blessed with what you have to offer? We make our own destinies. Free Will.

And many aren't. And you also need to consider other factors. Why do companies outsource? Possibly because the gov't is as restricting. And when I say that, I don' just mean in a humanitarian way. I mean in all ways. The government (who is also corrupt, mind you) comes in and tells a company that they have to do this this way and that that way (even if they way they were doing it before was perfectly fine, but not as profitable to the gov't) of course they are going to look elsewhere.

You can't just say that the rich people are the ones with ambition and the poor or middle class are the ones without. Financial wealth has more to do with the situations your born into than anything else. Many corporations are run by corrupt business men to whom the ends (making more money) justify the means (outsourcing, breaking the laws, etc).
Hektor88 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
self-motivated? many of them either a) inherit their wealth form days when we didn't have child labour laws or minimum wage and the businesses make tons of money (the Waltons, Rockefellers, etc), or they outsource their labor because Thailand and Bangladesh dont have those laws, so they can get the same product without treating others like human beings. If motivation was the only factor, there would be a lot more rich people. Unfortunately, a lot of it comes down to circumstance.
