everyone always credits ellen's coming out in 1997 as the big moment in gay history where there were openly gay characters on t.v. but by the time roseanne went off IN 1997, she had leon nancy, i believe her mother who were all gay at one point on the show( apparently herself in the series finale) plus sara gilbert heather matarrazzo who played DJ's girlfriend on the show are lesbians in real life. so this show was ahead of its time on that front as well. |
