I assume you're talking about plasma wakefield acceleration? It's *at least* 5 years away from being developed into the sort of thing every university has sitting in their basement and it will come nowhere near to energies the LHC is capable of. An accelerator based on this technology that's capable of doing anything interesting would require a very large room, so forget about them fitting on a desk.

have you seen the cern thing bout the enviroment? its quite great if you have doubts about how atlas could bring the world to an end write them they answer right back :) i did it and now im not that worried i was also afraid of diying because of it but its quite safe (sorry if i miss spelled something im from mexico)
