I remember the intro to this documentary series well, especially the "Prince Charming" scene and the song (Sorry if I'm not discussing the actual documentary). Does anyone know where the Prince Charming scene was from and who the actors were? I've been wondering this for years.

There is one thing that never has changed and never will change. Loyalty, Hierarchy, and adversity toward outsiders an inferiors. These things make for a world with slaves and slave masters and wars where people who don't know one another are killing one another for "reasons" that seem to be controlled by a "not us" mandate. The only thing that will cure this is to make rich people broke and powerful people into gutter dwellers. Maybe one every two years would do it. Four years is way to long.

Hayek was a moron who talked about computation without understanding it. As this film shows, Soviet planning was idiotic but whatever could be computed by the market could also be theoretically computed by a planning agency/computer. The failures of Soviet planning do not disprove socialism any more than a place crash disproves aviation.

Why is it near impossible to readily gain access to programming like this in America? As a result, I have this irrational urge to feel that watching Youtube is somehow subversive.
Thanks for sharing this?

A truly amazing, and very enlightening glimpse into Soviet economic life.

I love Adam Curtis's films. Have been looking for them my whole life. By the way, the 32:52 has no idea how to use scissors efficiently. What a unique capture of the times. Thanks Adam, wherever you are...

So do lots of countries. And the same thing usually happens to them all sooner or later-just not always at the same time.

Fair enough. I was 15 last time I visited Canada, and don't know everything about the relations between the countries. |
