Simple operations performed by a hard drive with no cover, so that you can see what it looks like inside. This experiment was performed on an old hard drive, do not try this with newer expensive hard drives, it is a bit risky. Joshua Marius www.letheonline.net

I am aware of the fan part, however, i notice when i do perform certain actions (usually complex ones) on my computer, i will here that vacum sound, like the one that starts from 18 secs to 21 in the video. That is not the fans. I actually have a custom computer case tempest which currently has 7 fans in it, so im aware that fans make a lot of noise =P

These noises like a Vacuum Cleaner are normally from a Fan, and not from the Hard Drive. The noise of the platter motor and the platter spinning gets silenced by the HD-Casing, probably Silencers between Casing and HD, and the Casing. These clicking noises are normal for HDs, I wonder why you didn't know that. =P

It's not making contact with the disk. the distance between the head and the disc surface are pretty close (less than a millimeter)

Many professors have actually shown this video to students in several Universities. I have received emails from many of the students.

To show how a hard drive works. Many people have not seen a hard drive without its cover. Better yet, many people have not seen a hard drive reading and writing data without it's cover. I myself had not seen it until I made this video.
