Why does the horse look annoyed at 3:57? I have yet to figure this out.

this cartoon in particular is signifigant not only for its content but the pure scope of it with dynamic backgrounds and extreme "camera" angles and movement that the story is set against. the boys of termite terrace showed a lot of innovation as well as intelligence which is sadly lacking in all too many mainstream productions. and for the record this is wagner not verdi

I understand where you're coming from about the values argument. still that doesnt mean it can not be enjoyed as slapstick with stong intelligence. however, as to the cultural depth argument i would argue that loony toons and merrie melodies in particular does have strong depth sometimes for the very reason that they do handle topics like opera and intelligent in that many of the cartoons that do contain at least some reference to the original.

One of the best cartoons ever!

Spongebob deomonstrates healthy cultural values such as honesty, hard work, and compassion. Frankly, I've rarely seen Bugs be anything but a douchebag. And of course spongebob doesn't have longevity, because it was actually drawn in my lifetime. Finally, because they write some funny words over a mish mash of Verdi selections you assume that it has "wit and verve" but why?
Not trying to play the "holier-than-thou" card, just want people to actually think about what they give "cultural depth."

Hmm...comfortable on that high horse?
The Looney Tunes have a great wit, verve and cultural depth, whereas Spongebob is entirely centred on the zany antics of its hero.
While I'm aware Spongebob does have a certain amount of intellect behind it, the show doesn't have anywhere near the longevity which the Looney Tunes had/have.
And tell me, what smug justification are you going to put behind the 'child health' perspective?

Don't get me wrong, I love .. I mean LOVE Bugs, but I can NAME a lot of other cartoons that are better than this - Especially Bugs Bunny ones. "THIS" the All-Time Greatest? I don't think so.

Love Love Love Wagner and Flying Dutchman Overture. They are so great. The Horse is freaking garguatuan though. |
